Tools I've discovered for blogging so far

Welcome to Blog Goop!

If you've just started blogging as well, chances are you've found yourself staring at your blog, wondering what in the world to post, or how to even get your career as a blogger going.

So far, here is what I've found:

1. Blog about what you know and like. The key to making any kind of ad revenue, especially AdSense, is to post often about what you are truly familiar with. Adsense, for example, sends browsing programs called robots out to scan your site for content. Once they report their findings to Google, Google tailors their advertisements to what you have written. If you provide an article of decent length, not too short for the robots and not too long for the readers, it all works out pretty well!

When I get stuck on what to blog about, I just write a few sentences... and PUBLISH IT! No matter how bad it looks, I get it sent out! The reason is that if you truly care about the blog you're working on, you'll work on fixing and finishing it faster! It nags at me, it really does, when I know I've got a half-done story, when I can do something so much better. But often, getting what I have out is the most important part. Sometimes, even when I know I have some spare time to write a complete article out, I publish the first few sentences to stay on track, because I know my readers are waiting for a full story! Take a look at http://slmt.blogspot.com. You'll see a lot of long articles, but many of them were just small paragraphs when they were published.

2. Link to the right resources! I started out just linking to blogs with "SL" or "Second Life" in their titles. For a while the AdSense was working great with my blog... the link ads read straight down "Second Life this" and "Second Life that". Then I got careless and added my backup blog, Second Life Merchant Times Archives. Combined with an article on caskets and tombstones, it was a freakin' disaster! My neat little row of Second Life ads degenerated into ads on genealogy and grieving. Hardly the type of ads I wanted to attract for interested readers to check out!

3. Read other blogs! I went to www.spillingcoffee.com and stumbled on some great blog tools! Just take a look at all the icons he has on the left! One I have just gotten into is Technorati. To read more about Technorati, just check out my post on blogging tools.
